The antiquity of the establishment it's proven by the type Tei II ceramics, bronze age, discovered at the point "Brickyard", at the village border, on the right part of the Târgoviște - Aninoasa road (research G. Mihăescu).

Named sometimes also Vihorești, Vihorâți or Viforâți, the establishment it's mentioned yet as 12 september 1479, when Basarab the Young gave to the Bolintin monastery vineyard at Vihorâți. After the build of the Viforâta monastery, the ocină(land surface) part become its propriety (doc. from 26 september - december 1557). From later documents result that Radu the Great gave the Vihorești village to Dealu monastery, in which possession was at 15 iunie 1612 and 1614. At 21 may 1652 Matei Basarab gave to the same monastery ocina from Viforâta, given by Neagoe Basarab at 1515 ; it's also indicating the boundary : "from the bottom of the Vlad Valley, from Viforîta, over runway of the valley below and over the valley called șipotul to the șipot and over the vineyards top, the Aninoasa part that's called Fața... and from the rocks of the vineyards over the field to Ialomița and from Ialomița how goes the Dealu monastery boundary until the Vihorîta entrance, over the valley runway to thedraw well called Păci and again from Draw Well Păcii on the top, from above until braniștea of Dealu monastery". From later documents result that this part of the Dealu monastery was called Viforâta Mouth.

At 1810 the village, called Viforâta monastery, numbered 36 romanian houses and 4 gipsy houses, with a total of 149 loc. ; at 1835 - 53 households ; 1838 - 355 loc. with 64 houses. At 1864 were given land 53 loc. on the state domain, the ex-domain of Viforâta monastery. At the end of the XIX century Viforâta commune was composed by two thorps : Viforâta and Mahalaua (Valea Voievozilor), with a population of 1500 loc. ; 1912 - 2.214 loc. The inhabitants made "especially lots of wine and plum brandy", and in the village were "some gas factories". The oil exploitation begun here yet as the second half of the XIX century. In 1889 was founded an oil and oil derived factory , proprety of Ion Grigorescu, which used an older refinery, from 1880.

The villege inhabitants took part at the 1907 rebellion,when "a number of 100 villagers asked the prefecture to intervine at Domaines and to give them land and return to them the 6 ha of pasture tooked from them and given to the Viforîta monastery".

At 1930 in the village functioned a ceramics and brick factory, where worked the village inhabitants, like those from the nearby villages. Viticulture and pomiculture were the main employment. At the oil factory from the Viforâta commune, with the occasion of the romanian army retreat in 1916, the industry torched. The installation being put on function hardly after 2 yaers and 7 months.

In 1838 was founded the school from Viforâta, when it functioned in the house of the teacher Gh. Verzea because the scool local wasn't yet being build. At the refounding of the school,in 1857, it will be repaired the counsel house where the school functioned until 1881, when it was disbanded. In 1893 the school functioned in a small local, along with the city hall. The local was built in 1912, with two classrooms. In 1934 has been a museum and a school library. The school was repaired after the earthquake from 1940. At 1930, from the 1.803 loc., 1.288 were littered, scilicet 71,6%, a very big percentage compared to that of other villages in the county.
